1John 5:12-13, 2Corinthians 13:5
Even someone who has known the Lord for years can have doubts about their salvation.
1.) The Word of God = 1John 5:13.
1John 2:3-5 = What are our attitudes to His commandments?
1John 2:29 = What are our attitudes to following His example in all things?
1John 3:9 = What is our attitude toward sin?
1John 3:14 = Do you love those who love Him?
1John 4:6 = What do we think of God’s Word?
1John 5:4 = Do you overcome or are you being overcome by the world?
The greatest assurance we have of Christ in us is the desire to do what He asks of us.
God wants you to know that you are saved.
John 1:12, 3:16, Romans 10:9-10, John 3:3, John 1:12-13
Ephesians 2:1, 5 and 8-9
2.) The Work of Christ = John 17:1-3.
John 16:8, Romans 3:23, John 14:6 and 8:24, Romans 10:9-10, 1John 2:2, Ephesians 3:17, 2Corinthians 5:17
We can now enjoy peace with God and the peace of God.
Romans 5:1 and Philippians 4:6-7
We have access to God directly and without any other mediator.
1Timothy 2:5, Hebrews 10:19-22
If you come to Him, it is because you have been drawn by Him.
John 6:37, John 10:25-30, Isaiah 40:12
Our salvation is not ours. It is God’s salvation granted to us by grace.
Psalm 51:12, Ephesians 2:8-9
Our salvation does not depend on what we do, but on what He has done!
Anyone born again by His Spirit will show it in their outward actions and inward attitudes
3.) The Witness of the Holy Spirit = Romans 8:16.
1Corinthians 12:3, John 16:8
We allow the Word of God to evaluate our experiences.
Galatians 5:22-23, Galatians 5:19-21
The Holy Spirit causes us to desire obedience to God and His Word, but also empowers us to obey.
Neither will He command us to do something that He does not enable us to do.
4.) Controversies = John 15:6.
Even if it is possible to lose your salvation by wandering too far, why would you want to wander that far and find out?
Our assurance is founded on His Word, the Work of Christ, and the Witness of the Holy Spirit within.
When we are facing difficulties and circumstances that threaten to overwhelm us, we have His salvation as an anchor for our souls.
