We’re not going anywhere without the Holy Spirit.
Joel 2:28-32, Genesis 41:38, Numbers 27:18, Judges 6:34, Judges 13:5, 1 Samuel 16:13
1.) A Very Different Relationship = John 14:15-20
Jesus is promising something the OT saints and prophets could never imagine, the permanent indwelling of God’s Spirit.
Psalm 51:11, Judges 6:34
a.) “With” = John 14:16
David prayed that God would not take His Holy Spirit from him, and now Jesus says that He will not.
b.) “In” = John 14:17
Those of us who are Believers, followers of Jesus Christ, born again by His Spirit, have the Holy Spirit within us, never to leave.
    c.) “Upon” = Luke 24:49
The Holy Spirit is “with”, “in”, and “upon” those who are followers of Jesus.
Romans 8:16, Romans 8:11, Romans 8:26
2.) Fuel for the Road = Matthew 28:18-20, Mark 16:19-20, Luke 24:49, John 21:22b
a.) He is going to provide the fuel you and I need = We really have two simple commandments here, and we can do neither successfully without the Holy Spirit’s help.
John 15:5
b.) That fuel will be necessary to follow Him = John 16:7-15
The Holy Spirit will convict the unbeliever’s heart AND lead us into the revealed truth in Jesus.
The work that will occupy your entire life until you die, is following Jesus and sharing His free gift of eternal life with all who need it.
Society has changed, but the message and the means hasn’t.
3.) Walking the Same Path = Acts 1:1-4a
Acts 16:10-17, 20:5-21, Colossians 4:14, Acts 1:1, Luke 1:3, Luke 1:1-4, Acts 28:31
The work began in Acts chapter 1 will never be finished until Jesus returns.
Luke 19:13
