He takes away all my reasons to kill myself.
Will I listen to my emotions or God’s Word?
1.) A Sense of Worthlessness = Luke 12:6-7
Jesus says you have value.
John 6:37, Romans 5:8, Ephesians 2:10
God loves us in ways we can’t even imagine!
When my emotions are telling me that I am worthless, and God’s Word is telling me that I have enormous value in God’s eyes, what will I believe?
2.) Guilt = Isaiah 1:18
Often, what we are looking for from God is not just forgiveness, but deliverance from consequences!
Forgiveness frees us from having to live under the crushing weight of our guilt.
Matthew 20:28, 2Corinthians 5:17
When my emotions are overwhelmed by my guilt, and God’s Word is telling me that I have been set free from my guilt, what will I believe?
3.) Loneliness = Psalm 68:6 (NIV)
One of the purposes of Church is for us all to have people around us so that we might encourage each other in this daily fight.
1Thessalonians 5:11, Hebrews 13:5, Deuteronomy 31:6
When my emotions are telling me that I am all alone, and God’s Word is telling me that I have Him with me at all times, what will I believe?
4.) Unmet Expectations = 1Kings 8:17-19, Matthew 19:22
When did God ever say you would get everything you expect?
Luke 22:42, John 11:17-37, John 9:1-3
In each case, God had something in mind that no one else could see or imagine.
Maybe the problem is that I have set false or unreasonable expectations that have nothing to do with God’s Will for my life.
1John 5:21 (NLT)
When my expectations are unmet and I’m feeling disappointed, and God’s Word is telling me that He has a plan for my life that may not coincide with my plans for my life, what will I believe?
5.) Grief and Personal Loss = 2Samuel 12:22-23
We will all suffer loss of many different kinds in this life, but some emotional pain can seem far too much of a burden to bear.
Psalm 147:3, Isaiah 41:10, Matthew 5:4
What will we do with our loss?
When my emotions are overwhelmed with loss, and God’s Word communicates great words of comfort, what will I believe?
6.) Overwhelming Pain = Psalm 34:18
Jesus understands suffering, both physical and emotional.
Matthew 26:38, Luke 22:44, 1Peter 4:12-13, Revelation 21:4
Every one of us will suffer varying degrees of physical and emotional pain in this life.
Romans 8:28, 2Corinthians 4:16-18
When I am emotionally overwhelmed with pain in all its manifestations, and God’s Word communicates great words of healing and peace, what will I believe?
7.) Hopelessness = Romans 5:1-5
There is, perhaps, nothing more powerfully destructive than the loss of hope.
God is paying attention and He cares very much.
2Corinthians 1:3-4, Romans 8:37-39
When my emotions tell me I have no hope, and am abandoned, unloved by God, or that He doesn’t care, and I read in His Word the exact opposite, what will I believe, my emotions or God’s Word?
When He says we walk in light, but everything feels dark, what will I believe?
In Christ you are set free from the power of those things to control you. Your feelings may betray you, but God’s Word never will.
For every depressing thought or circumstance, God takes away from me my reasons to end my own life.
What will you believe?
