Nehemiah 13:6-11 and 15-18
1.) The Return of Bad Habits = Vs.6-11 and 15-18.
Habits are those things that develop without thinking, stay without permission, and only leave with the great effort!
John 3:3, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 2:1, 1 Peter 2:9
As we understand what God’s Word says about being born again, we need to start acting like it.
You never have to plant a weed; all you have to do is ignore it.
2.) Dealing with Bad Habits = Nehemiah 13:8-9, 11, 17, 21 and 25.
Sometimes those around you will notice your bad habits before you do.
Romans 8:13
Obey the Spirit and the flesh dies.
We must see our bad habits for what they are, and desire change.
The first step is ALWAYS to return to the first things.
1 Timothy 4:16, 2 Timothy 2:15
3.) Develop Good Habits = Nehemiah 13:8, 12-13, 19 and 22.
Let’s replace bad habits with good ones.
2 Peter 3:10-14, 1 Corinthians 15:33, Romans 6:11
We must take active steps to avoid sin.
Developing good habits is the best way to starve old habits to death.
2 Timothy 2:15, Hebrews 10:25, 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Matthew 28:19, Galatians 5:13
Good habits dislodge bad ones.
Return to first things and make THEM habits.
4.) Maintaining Good Habits = Nehemiah 9, 13, 19 and 30.
When we drift from the most basic things, we lose touch with Jesus.
A boat that is not tied to the dock won’t run away, but it will drift away.
John 15:4-10
What is your fixed place or permanent position?
John 15:1, Matthew 23:3, Philippians 4:9, 2 Peter 1:10
What stops you from continuing in the basic things?
When you backslide, maybe it’s because you forgot the wreckage you created last time you did this.
How do we escape bad habits? Kill them with good ones!
