1.) It Starts with Two Christians = Ephesians 5:8-10
John 3:3, 2Corinthians 5:17
With the command comes the enabling for God’s people.
We sacrifice our marriages, spouses, children and families on the altar of self-interest.
2.) Two People Who Want God’s Will Ahead of Their Own = Romans 12:1-2
The “you” that He made is contained within the “self” that you have made.
Genesis 2:24
How much selfishness can you maintain and make that work?
My first focus is to walk humbly in obedience to God; then seek the best for my spouse in all things.
Matthew 6:33, Ephesians 4:1
3.) Two People for Whom Obedience to God’s Word is Paramount = John 14:15 and 15:9-10.
Obedience to His Word is the centerpiece of enjoying His love for us.
Our desire to obey God’s Word will keep us on track when our feelings and emotions might be leading us otherwise.
For a Christian marriage to work, obedience to God’s Word must be the primary motivation for both people.
Psalm 15:5, Galatians 5:16
With enough time and mental anguish, we may find ourselves justifying something that in our spirit and God’s Word, we know is wrong.
Obedience to God’s Word will keep us on track when our emotions might tell us something else.
4.) Two People Who Understand The Meaning Of Love = Ephesians 5:25, John 3:16
This love is selfless, sacrificial and unconditional.
We need to be working with the same definitions of the same words from the same page of the same book at the same time.
Doing marriage God’s way is always the best way.
