Notes
Repentance says more about God than it does about us.
1) God Who is Worshiped
Nehemiah 9:1-5a
He alone is to be worshiped.
Isaiah 6:1-8, John 4:24
God alone is worthy to be worshiped, and when we do it aligns us with Him.
2) God the Creator
Nehemiah 9:5b-6.
Genesis 1:1, Hebrews 4:13, Revelation 5:11-13, John 8:29
Living in alignment with Him is best for US.
A vital part of repentance is a return to being who He made us to be.
3) God the Initiator
Nehemiah 9:7-8
Genesis 1:1, Genesis 25:23, Ephesians 1:4, Isaiah 45:6-7, John 9:1-3
He is righteous.
We may not like what He does or how He does it, but we can never accuse Him of wrongdoing.
4) God the Intervener
Nehemiah 9:9-12
John 9:1-3
What we don’t see is what He is going to do with it.
John 11:1-44
We are handicapped by our inability to see beyond our own circumstances.
Having seen God deliver us in the past stokes the fire of faith for future trials.
God did intervene, God will intervene, but not always the way we want or when we want.
Isaiah 40:31
5) God the Lawgiver
Nehemiah 9:13-14
God created everything, so that gives Him alone the right to make the rules.
Genesis 3:1-7, Matthew 4:8-10
It is His Laws that we have broken, and it is to Him we must come in repentance.
Psalm 51:4
We have broken HIS Laws and we need HIS forgiveness.
6) God the Provider
Nehemiah 9:15, 9:19-21
Exodus 16 and 17, Matthew 6:11, Matthew 6:33
Sin is our dissatisfaction with what God has provided.
1 Timothy 6:6-10, James 4:1-3
If all our perspiration is in trying to grab more than we have, we have become possessed by our possessions.
What He provides is always what is best for us.
7) God the Judge
Nehemiah 9:16-18, 9:26-31
God is the rule maker; that makes Him our Judge.
Matthew 3:2, Matthew 4:17, Acts 2:38
Repentance is a change of direction based on a changed mind.
He is the Judge; we must begin there.
8) God the Gracious
Nehemiah 9:22-25
Genesis 12:1-3, Deuteronomy 7:6-8, Ephesians 2:4-9, Matthew 7:11
He delights in showing us His grace by forgiving us.
Jesus died in our place, purchasing for us what we could never deserve.
9) God the Merciful
Nehemiah 9:27b, 9:28b, 9:30a, and 9:31
Mercy is NOT getting what we DO deserve.
Matthew 5:7, Romans 9:23, Romans 11:31
God has shown us mercy that others might see it and receive it as well.
John 3:16, Acts 2:21
Remember: 1 John 1:9 is a Promise!
Come to God in repentance and experience what mercy means.
10) God the Forgiver
Nehemiah 9:32-38
Greater than all their sin was the mercy, grace and forgiveness of God.
Hebrews 4:13, Genesis 3:7
He already knows everything, yet He loves us nonetheless!
Malachi 7:18, Matthew 6:14-15, Colossians 3:12-13
His forgiveness is not to be hoarded; it is to be passed on to someone else.
Psalm 16:11, Romans 2:4
Have you repented before Him? Have you discovered His grace and mercy?
