1.) Ministry to Others = Vs.1-2.
Luke 3:10-14, Matthew 25:35-40, Hebrews 13:16, Philippians 2:4, 1 John 3:17, Proverbs 19:17, John 13:34-35
This is about the time we start examining our hearts and asking if we are doing ANYTHING to help ANYBODY.
We are to look out after each other.
Sometimes the burdens of life are too much to bear alone.
What this requires is the humility to admit that we are overwhelmed.
James 2:8, Mark 12:31
We can help because we are tempted, but we must be careful when we help because we are tempted.
We help because we need help.
This is what cooperating with the Holy Spirit looks like.
2.) Self Examination = Vs.3-5.
If you think you are “something”, you aren’t.
If your self-examination leads to guilt, you are listening to the wrong voices.
1 Corinthians 11:27-32
With Godly and healthy self-examination we can avoid so many costly mistakes.
Isaiah 6:1-8, Psalm 23:4, James 1:2-4
There are some things that you can’t help me with.
Hebrews 13:5, Philippians 4:13
3.) Sharing = Vs.6.
Galatians 1:7, 1 Corinthians 9:3-14, 1 Corinthians 9:15-18, 1 Thessalonians 2:9
One of the great things about “rights” is that we can give them up anytime we want.
Paul saw something that was far bigger than his personal rights, and that was the necessity of preaching the Gospel.
4.) The Fruitfulness of Accountability = Vs.7-10.
We ARE accountable to God whether we want to be or not.
When our motives are selfish, we are mocking God.
Even when we are unwilling to do so, there is One Who is judging our motives.
If you are unwilling to “examine” your own work, be assured that God IS.
1 Corinthians 3:11-15.
Not to determine salvation, but rewards.
I serve daily and leave the rewards up to God.
I am free from expecting rewards from those that I serve. I am free to serve simply out of love for Jesus and love for my neighbor.
