1.) Walk Don’t Run = Vs.16-18.
Romans 8:1, 4 and 13-14, Mark 7:5, John 8:12, Romans 6:4
Walking in the Spirit is the way you conduct yourself daily in all things.
The desires of my flesh are represented by internal impulses compelling me to satisfy them.
God’s Spirit will remind us of everything God has said.
John 14:26, John 16:8, John 14:7
Our choice is to “walk in the Spirit” or not.
It is my choice as to what or Whom I obey.
Faith says that following the impulses of God’s Spirit is far better than what will result from following my flesh.
Don’t look at the struggle, look at the impending results on the other side of your decision.
2.) The Fruit of the Flesh = Vs.19-21.
1John 3:4; Romans 4:15, Romans 6:12-17; 7:5-24
It is the basic corrupting agent in the entire universe.
All sin is an act of idolatry.
1Corinthians 6:9-10, Ephesians 5:5, Revelation 22:14-15, Matthew 5:28, 1Corinthians 6:9-10, Ephesians 5:5, Revelation 22:15
The Law of God contained in 613 commandments in the O.T. as well as the lists of sins defined here gives us a broad scope with which to define what sin is from God’s perspective.
My perspective does not matter. God is the one Who alone has the right to define these things.
3.) The Fruit of the Spirit = Vs.22-26.
Maybe we would be more productive “producing” rather than “eliminating”.
Isaiah 64:6, Matthew 3:4-10, 2Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 4:17-24
The new nature will produce in and through us that which is consistent with that nature.
If we are born again there will be a visible and demonstrable difference in our lives,
We are to be what He makes us.
We can spend all our time trying to get rid of bad habits.
I can spend my time allowing the Spirit to produce the things that are consistent with His Spirit within me.
In the process of producing the fruit of the Spirit in my life, the works of the flesh will die naturally.
Romans 8:12-14, Romans 5:1
Apart from Christ in you, you will never produce what God wants to produce in you by His Spirit.
Stay attached to Him.
Philippians 1:6 and 2:12-16
God is working for our best, His glory and the long haul.
This “much fruit” is the natural result of spending time with Jesus.
Take the fruit that is produced in our lives by the presence of the Holy Spirit and cultivate it!
Romans 8:13, Romans 10:17
What begins as fruit born of the Holy Spirit in our lives becomes a cooperative effort to multiply and maximize what God has implanted.
