1.) God Did Not Do What He Should Have Done = Vs.21.
God did not prevent something bad from happening.
If I was God, I’d do something about it!
We have one plan in mind and often God has another.
2.) God Did What I Thought He Wouldn’t =
God did something that we see as bad.
Genesis 37:12-28, Genesis 39:20 and 40:23
As people of faith we want to trust God with everything.
Sometimes we feel that God has done something bad, at least bad as we see it.
3.) God Is Late = Genesis 15 and 16:1-4
His promise had not appeared yet and they were tired of waiting.
Have you ever thought that all these things in the Bible are for others and not you?
Why does God allow some to suffer for so long?
4.) God Doesn’t Care = Otherwise He would have done something.
We may think that God simply doesn’t care.
Does God really care? Why am I not experiencing His promises?
5.) We Are Assuming We Can Understand = Isaiah 55:8-9
For God to be God, we must understand that we will not understand everything He does or does not do.
To demand an explanation for everything is to assume we could understand the answer.
John 11:4, 11 and 14, Genesis 50:20, Acts 1:7
Sometimes, we cannot see past our own situation to see the bigger picture.
6.) We Create False Expectations = This happens when we create a “straw god”.
We believe in God according to our own definitions and not as He has revealed Himself in Scripture.
We may have expectations of God, His character and His ways that are not firmly grounded in Scripture.
7.) We Create Situations and Blame God For It = Many of our troubles are simply of our own creation.
Proverbs 3:5-6, Numbers 14:20-25
God’s Word teaches clearly that for those who walk in faith and obedience to Him there is no such thing as “random”.
Romans 8:28, James 1:2-4
8.) We Are Ignorant of God and His Word = Hosea 4:6, Isaiah 5:13
If we are ignorant of God’s Word we will be so to our own doom and failure.
Our expectations must be rooted in His Word or we are setting ourselves up for disappointment.
To be ignorant of His Word is to be ignorant of Him.
We are all going to experience things in our lives that we don’t like or understand.
Zephaniah 3:5, Isaiah 55:11, Psalm 22:5 (NIV)
Do you know what to do with your failures? Bring them all to Him Who never fails.
He will not meet your false expectations, but He will be faithful and trustworthy to complete everything He has promised in His Word.
