There is nothing in life that levels the playing field of humankind like suffering. Yet for the entire history of suffering throughout the world and all the theories invented by the human mind concerning suffering, none comes close to the profound exploration in the book of Job. As suffering levels the playing field of humanity, so our view of suffering "un-levels" the playing field. All will suffer, but not all will suffer alike; one man's suffering is another's cake walk. But for the believer, the one who has been born again by God's Sprit, the subject of suffering is also the subject of God Himself.
